Anthony J. “Tony” Tummillo, 87, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, January 13 after a brief hospital stay.
Tony loved God, his family, his friends, and our country. He was drafted during the Korean conflict and stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas where he met the love of his life, Maria. Tony was born in Chicago, Illinois and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
Tony loved to sing and was a cantor and he and Maria were members of the St. Patrick Choir in El Paso, Texas for many years. He also loved carpentry and repairing or renovating things around the house, much to his wife’s delight. Tony was also a great cook in his younger years and everyone in his family enjoyed his pizza using his mother Josephine’s recipe, or his crullers at Christmas time.
Tony was a loving husband, proud father to his four children, and delighted in his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tony was active in almost every parish to which he belonged since childhood. Whether he was an altar server, choir member, lector, or religious education instructor, Tony put his whole heart into each opportunity to serve the Lord and his neighbor.
His relationship with the Lord only deepened in his last few years. He was involved with the Divine Mercy Cenacle at St. Helen Catholic Church and prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet each day, as well as prayed the rosary daily and with the Our Lady of Fatima group each Saturday. He grew spiritually after the loss of Maria, even as his physical health declined.
He loved to laugh and enjoyed engaging in lively conversations with everyone he met.
He was a great storyteller and had a lot of knowledge about a myriad of subjects.
Tony is survived by his daughters, Gerrianne Waring (James), Debra Goodman (Al), and Lynda MacFarland (Sean), his deceased son’s widow, Barbara Tummillo, his grandchildren Michael McCabe, Jason Conley, Timothy Conley, Justin Tummillo, Gavin Tummillo, Maegan Sidon, and Devin Saavedra, Maggie Phillips, Philip MacFarland, their spouses, as well as 26 great-grandchildren; his brothers Samuel Tummillo and Matthew Tummillo and their spouses. He is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Magdalena Salazar Tummillo and his son, Michael Anthony Tummillo.
Funeral arrangements are pending but will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown, Texas in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Trinity Mission http://www.trinitymissions.org
