Sonya Lee Mackey went to be with the Lord on December 30. 2020 due to COVID related complications. She was born in Amarillo, TX on September 2, 1960 to Ralph Burrow and Yolanda Dees.

Sonya called many places her home through out her lifetime- Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska, Colorado. A natural born storyteller, she wove her life story into the lives of her daughters. She would tell them stories of being a young girl ending up living in Alaska, first loves, joys and hardships. She shared her life lessons openly with others and accepted everyone without judgement.

Sonya’s soul purpose in life was to make everyone feel loved. It was rare for her to show up to someone’s house empty-handed. She was a quiet woman, the queen of calm, she handled everything that was thrown her way with grace. She loved traveling, whether it was going on cruises, flying to Hawaii or New York or just planning a road trip to Colorado to see the leaves change, she had a love for new places with the people she loved.

Forever creative, Sonya had a love for quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting and decorating. She made the family motto “I can make that” and left those that were fostered by her creativity to continue contributing to the world with their gifts. She held so much pride and love in her heart for her daughters. Although their hearts are devastated, they are eternally grateful for her showing them how to move through life with grace and a thankful heart. Each grandchild lit up her Grammy heart, she loved them each for their different personalities and showered them with love as often as she could. If you were one of Grammy’s grands, you knew how much you were loved by her.
