Obituary

James E. “Jim” Waring, 86 years old, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away after a three month fight in the hospital. He was admitted for COVID/Pneumonia, but acquired Hospital Pneumonia twice during his stay. He passed on March 10, 2021 at 1:37 a.m. Jim loved God, family, friends and our Country. He was a friend to every one he met. He was always smiling and laughing and loved to make others laugh as well. Jim was adopted by James Henry and Mary Waring, from Liverpool, England, who precede him in death. Jim never had the pleasure of meeting his birth mom, Minnie Hewett, or his sister, Joyce, as they had passed on in the 1990’s. But, oh what a glorious reunion they had in Heaven! His niece, Carole Tartt, daughter of Joyce, has been in contact for the past couple of years. Although sadly, Jim and Carole never had the opportunity for a face-to-face meeting.

Jim loved air and sea! At 14 years of age he joined the Merchant Marines. He had the good fortune of traveling all over the world to different sea ports, including the USA. He later enlisted with the US Air Force in 1955 thru 1963. He jokingly would say he joined the USAF because he liked their uniforms better than the UKs. Jim served on Communications in Radar planes and after re-enlistment he was a Gunner on the B-52s. He frequently spoke about his time in the USAF and regretted he never retired with them. He would proudly wear his B-52 cap in public and usually strike up a conversation with a fellow retired Airman about the “good ol’ days” in the USAF.

Jim met his wife, Gerrianne, in 1990 while living in El Paso, Texas. They dated for three years and married on January 16, 1993 at Mt. Franklin Baptist Church. Jim took on the responsibility of assisting Gerrianne in raising her three sons as well. It was quite an adjustment for him with the 23 years age difference and his “old school” opinions on discipline. It was quite an adjustment for everyone, but he loved those boys as his own. After 14 years of marriage, and the kids were either married or on their own, Jim & Gerrianne made the decision to move to Central Texas, due to a promotion/transfer with her job. Jim was working with telecommunications at the time and felt he could do his job anywhere. So, with Jim’s blessing, they moved to Georgetown. He was blessed in the past 6 ½ years to have worked with Redstone Payment Solutions where he sold merchant services & credit card machines to retail businesses. He was hired at the age of 79! This was truly a blessing from God! Jim was a great salesman and was Regional Account Exec in the Central Texas area. He would travel sometimes up to 300 miles in a day to either cold call or to provide customer service to his clients. Their emergency became his emergency. All his clients loved him! So, did Redstone! Jim was a hard worker, full of energy and handled every situation without complaining. He was also in excellent health! When visiting his VA Doctor for his annual physical she would put an A+ on his lab results. Jim took good care of himself and was regimented in his exercising with weights for over 40 years.

Jim had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1982 at the age of 48. Jim made his share of mistakes and bad choices and paid the price for it. But, his life changed by the time he married Gerrianne and eventually when moving to Central Texas. Jim loved Georgetown, the history and the people. He wanted to plant his roots here and get some land and build a home on it. He wanted to use our home for ministry purposes. He had a vision which God gave to him as well as his wife. Jim became bolder in  his Christian faith and wasn’t ashamed to pray with anyone whom he sensed needed it. He would told the story of many times he prayed with his potential customers as well as his existing customers.

Jim is survived by his wife, Gerrianne Waring; Sons, Vernon Waring & Shawn Waring, Stepsons, Michael McCabe (Rosie), Jason Conley (Sabrina) & Timothy Conley (Julie), as well as his 13 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Ralph Waring.
